Fifth-grade students should have mastered whole number arithmetic and they will be using those skills to multiply and divide fractions. Algebraic patterns and relationships become more of a focus this year as a foundation for middle and high school algebra. In literacy, your students will continue to read deeply from a wide range of challenging texts from different cultures and periods in history. Students will research in order to build knowledge and will analyze the text they read in order to engage fully and thoughtfully in classroom discussions.
