A Message from Dr. Woody, ACS Superintendent

ACS Community,

Asheboro City Schools is committed to creating secure, supportive environments where every individual feels safe, valued, and heard. In light of recent tragic events across our country and ongoing concerns, we want to reaffirm our dedication to protecting our school community and to address some of the challenges we face together.

Incidents of violence can understandably lead to fear and anxiety, especially when rumors of threats spread quickly, often through social media. Over recent weeks, we have seen reports of such threats. We want to make it clear: every reported threat is taken seriously, and we will continue to work with our partners in our local law enforcement to investigate them fully. However, we need your partnership in addressing this issue.

We urge parents, caregivers, and community members to be actively involved in monitoring online activity. Take the time to review the apps and messages on your child’s devices, ask questions, and most importantly, have open conversations with them about what they’re seeing and feeling. In today’s climate, any threat of violence, whether made in person, online, or in passing, is taken seriously and can carry severe consequences. Words matter. Please talk to your children about the impact of their words and actions, and the seriousness of making threats—even in jest.

Report, do not repost. We ask that any posts or messages about threats be reported directly to the school or law enforcement, rather than forwarded to others. Sharing unverified information only amplifies fear. If you see something concerning, please say something, but let the proper authorities handle the investigation.

If you or your child ever have concerns about safety, we have anonymous reporting options available 24/7 online at  www.saysomething.net or with the phone hotline 1-844-5-SAYNOW (729-669). Together, we can create a safer, more supportive environment for everyone in our schools.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership in keeping our school community safe.

Sincerely,

Aaron Woody, Ed.D., Asheboro City Schools Superintendent
