Throughout the month, we are highlighting influential and impactful Black leaders. Several members of the ACS staff contributed names and facts of people they believed should be recognized. Victoria Gardner, North Asheboro Middle math teacher, chose to acknowledge scientist, Dr. Marie Maynard Daly. Dr. Daly was the first African-American woman in the United States to earn a PhD in chemistry. Her discoveries have helped the health field to make necessary connections between
high cholesterol and congestive heart issues.
