Asheboro City Schools Partners with UNCG and Randolph Community College to Offer the TEACH Program: A New Pathway for Aspiring Educators

Asheboro City Schools (ACS) has an exciting partnership with the University of North Carolina at Greensboro’s (UNCG) Institute for Partnerships in Education (IPiE) and Randolph Community College to support the TEACH program, which stands for Tomorrow's Educators Advancement to College through High School. This innovative initiative is designed to inspire and support high school students who are passionate about pursuing a career in education as an elementary or middle school teacher.

The TEACH program aims to develop a strong pipeline of future educators who will, in turn, enrich the Asheboro community by returning to teach in the school district where they were once students. This collaboration represents a significant step toward addressing the growing need for skilled and passionate teachers both locally and beyond.

“Building a sustainable pathway for our students to enter the teaching profession is not just an investment in their futures, but in the future of our community as a whole,” said Dr. Wendy Rich, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction at Asheboro City Schools. “We are thrilled to partner with UNCG and Randolph Community College to create an opportunity for our students to thrive and, ultimately, come back to inspire the next generation.”

Program Highlights

The TEACH program offers a unique, customizable pathway for high school students interested in becoming educators. Some of the standout features of the program include:

  • Accelerated College Completion: Students have the potential to graduate from UNCG with a degree in education within two years of completing high school, thanks to dual enrollment courses and other streamlined academic pathways.

  • Comprehensive Support: TEACH students will receive personalized coaching and mentoring from both high school and university staff, ensuring they are well-prepared for the rigors of college and the teaching profession.

  • Enrichment and Skill Development: Participants will have access to enrichment opportunities to broaden their skills and experiences, setting them apart as future educators.

  • Exam Support: The program will offer guidance and resources to help students prepare for entrance exams and licensure requirements, ensuring a smooth transition from student to professional educator.

This partnership leverages the expertise of UNCG’s School of Education and Randolph Community College to create a seamless experience for aspiring teachers. By providing students with the resources, mentorship, and academic preparation needed, TEACH is poised to cultivate a new generation of educators who are not only well-qualified but also deeply committed to the Asheboro community.

“By investing in our local students, we are investing in the future of our schools,” added Dr. Rich. “We believe this program will inspire a new wave of educators who are passionate about making a difference right here at home.”

Looking Ahead

As Asheboro City Schools continues to foster collaborations that benefit students and the community, the TEACH program exemplifies the district’s commitment to nurturing talent and promoting excellence. The program is set to begin enrolling its second cohort of students starting in late 2024, with plans to expand in the years ahead.
