Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month: Alondra Ruiz

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, we are recognizing Hispanic and Latino members of the ACS community. Today, we highlight Alondra Ruiz who is the media specialist at South Asheboro Middle School. Prior to working at SAMS, Ms. Ruiz attended Balfour, NAMS, AHS, Randolph Community College, and Appalachian State University. She earned her master's in library science from UNC-G.

Can you tell us about your heritage and how it has shaped your personal and professional journey?
Along with being an educator, I am also a proud first-generation Mexican-American. My experiences in life have always been a little different from my peers, but I have always been proud of my roots and my dedication to any goal I set my mind to meet.

Can you recommend any books, music, or films that you feel beautifully represent Hispanic and Latino culture?
I LOVE Natalia Lafourcade. She is such a talented Hispanic artist. "Hasta La Raiz" is one of my favorite songs from her.

What advice would you give to young people who are trying to find their voice in today's world?
Stay true to yourself and never be ashamed of who you are. Embrace your roots with pride, even when others make you feel different.

As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, what message would you like to share with the community and beyond?
Our voices, culture, and contributions are powerful. We should always uplift and encourage one another for the greater good.
